As part of the ongoing work of the EU-funded KEEPCARING project, a new video walkthrough offers an inside look at how advanced data capture is being used in modern operating rooms to support patient care, healthcare professionals and surgical safety during complex cardiac procedures.

The video takes viewers inside Operating Room 23 within Rigshospitalet’s Heart Centre, guided by Johanne Søborg Hartmann, Operating Room Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist at Rigshospitalet, President of FSOP – the Danish Operating Room Nurses Association – and KEEPCARING PhD student. She introduces the different areas of the operating room and the coordinated environment where anaesthesia teams, perfusionists and operating room nurses work together. Central to the tour is the OR Black Box system.

Featuring three ceiling-mounted cameras and multiple audio recording points, the OR Black Box system allows surgical teams to flag specific moments or events during a procedure at the press of a button. These flagged events can then be categorised and saved for post-operative video review and analysis.

By capturing and reviewing these real-time insights, the KEEPCARING project supports healthcare professionals in better understanding workflow dynamics, learning from everyday practice and fostering continuous improvement and surgical safety.
