User-Centred Interaction Design for Enhancing Professional Well-Being in Healthcare Environments
Caschera & Guzzo (CNR) · Healthcare, MDPI · Open access · Peer-reviewed · Published 3 March 2026
Healthcare professionals often work in demanding environments where high workloads, time pressure and complex responsibilities can negatively affect their well-being. In this peer-reviewed, open-access study, CNR researchers Maria Chiara Caschera and Tiziana Guzzo explore how user-centred design can capture the real needs of healthcare staff, managers and other stakeholders — from diverse requirements to complex interaction workflows and organizational constraints. Through co-design events and collaborative discussions, and using tools such as personas and realistic scenarios, these insights were translated into concrete design requirements for the web-based Change Management Platform developed within KEEPCARING. The findings show that directly involving end users in the design process helps create more effective, user-friendly digital solutions to support healthcare professionals' well-being and prevent burnout.
