KEEPCARING at EORNA 2026 — Burnout & resilience among operating room nurses
Presented by Johanne Søborg Hartmann — Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet, The Heart Center, and the KEEPCARING project (EU Horizon).
The operating room is both challenging and demanding, and may induce or elevate occupational stress in OR nurses — while healthcare systems struggle to retain and attract them. This job-satisfaction survey, enrolled within KEEPCARING, investigates OR nurses' levels of burnout symptoms, job satisfaction, leadership influence, and individual, team and organizational stressors in their work life.
Approximately 100 perioperative nurses responded. Early findings indicate that OR nurses experience burnout symptoms, that leadership style influences their work environment, and that work–life balance is challenged in this high-stress setting. Future KEEPCARING work will build a healthier workforce by combining non-digital, digital and AI-driven approaches to individual, team and organisational stressors.
