Meet two of the KEEPCARING partners — HOPE (Belgium) and EFN (Belgium) — and the people driving their work: Sascha Marschang and Paul De Raeve.

HOPE and Sascha Marschang

HOPE, the European Hospital and Healthcare Federation, is a European non-profit organisation, created in 1966 representing national public and private hospital and healthcare associations and hospital, health and social care services owners. With 36 organisations from the 27 Member States of the European Union, the United-Kingdom, Switzerland and the Republic of Serbia, HOPE covers almost 80% of hospital care and is also active in the healthcare and social fields.

Sascha Marschang

For over 15 years, Sascha Marschang has been active in EU health policy in Brussels, with a strong focus on digital health transformation and health inequalities. At HOPE, he supports the Chief Executive by providing intelligence on key EU digital policies relevant to hospitals and healthcare services, including the European Health Data Space, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. He represents HOPE members in the European arena through policymaker meetings, public consultations, position papers, briefings and expert groups. Sascha is particularly interested in working with diverse stakeholders to co-create inclusive, ethical and human-centric solutions that respond to real needs. His long-standing engagement with public health advocacy and healthcare workforce challenges makes KEEPCARING especially relevant to his work.

EFN and Paul De Raeve

Established in 1971, the European Federation of Nurses Associations (EFN) is the independent voice of the nursing profession, representing over 38 National Nurses Associations from 36 EU countries and its work has an effect on the daily work of 6 million nurses throughout the European Union and Europe. Its mission is to strengthen the status and practice of the profession of nursing for the benefit of the health of the citizens and the interests of nurses in the EU & Europe.

Paul De Raeve

Paul De Raeve has been a registered nurse since 1984 and holds master’s degrees in Nursing Science and Statistics, as well as a PhD from King’s College London. Since 2002, he has served as Secretary General of the European Federation of Nurses Associations. As an EU lobbyist, his work focuses on promoting and protecting nurses across Europe, ensuring that nursing remains central to EU health and social policy. His activities cover key areas such as health workforce policy, psychosocial risks, professional qualifications, skills portability, quality and safety of care, planetary health and the digitalisation of healthcare. Through his advocacy work, he contributes to shaping concrete policy outcomes that support nurses’ roles, working conditions and professional development. Within KEEPCARING, this perspective is particularly relevant to discussions on nurses’ mental health, well-being and resilience.
