PRESS RELEASE – Resilient healthcare in focus: KEEPCARING to take centre stage at HLTH Europe 2025

Amsterdam, May 2025 — At the upcoming HLTH Europe in Amsterdam, Professor Marlies Schijven will spotlight the Horizon EU-funded KEEPCARING project, a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing the well-being and resilience of healthcare professionals in surgery in European hospitals. Coordinated by Amsterdam UMC and lead by Schijven and her team, KEEPCARING addresses the pressing issue of stress and burnout symptoms among healthcare workers—particularly in surgical settings—by developing a comprehensive, co-created solution package that integrates non-digital, digital, and AI-supported interventions.
During her presentation at HLTH Europe, Schijven will focus on the multifaceted approach that KEEPCARING has, and discuss how KEEPCARING exemplifies the future of healthcare innovation—where technology, human-centered design, and systemic change converge to create healthier work environments and, ultimately, better patient care. Her presentations will contribute to a larger conversation around the transformation of the European healthcare landscape.

In times marked by stress, burnout and mounting systemic pressure on the healthcare system, we must put the well-being of healthcare professionals first. For they are, after all, the backbone of our hospitals.”
“KEEPCARING goes further than just addressing stress,” she continues. “It’s about building a resilient workforce—one that can sustain itself even in the toughest conditions. By integrating innovative technologies, co-creation, and a holistic perspective, we are crafting solutions that not only support healthcare providers but also elevate the quality of care they deliver. At HLTH, I look forward to share how we can shape this transformation—together.”
